You’ve seen them before – Officer John Brunel says something like “This guy really doesn’t know what to do”. One of our favorite sites is the Smoking Gun (Why are some of these people smiling?). We get news and photos of famous people in their worst hair days. But sometimes we don’t get the really dorky articles.
That’s where a site like Dumb Criminals comes in. You get to find about the everyday ones. Quick blurbs about what the person did and how dumb that was.
So if you are a person that puts your drugs in an interesting orifice, thinking that you can shoplift by bringing your whole family into the store or think that Turkeys can fly, then go ahead and do it. Dumb Criminals will catalog those people for you.
I can’t remember why I started writing this….
OK, yes I can. I just sat down and wrote – then let the song take it’s own life. Sometimes a song works well when you don’t have a preconceived notion. When I got home I strummed some chords and everything fell in to place.
It really is a thinking song. What can you remember in your life?

Been meaning to get one of those little Flash drives for your keychain? Don’t want to look Dorky with a Flash drive on your keychain? Well, TrekStor might have the item for you.
It’s a storage device and a bottle opener all in one! With sizes up to 8 GB, you can hold a whole operating system in your pocket and still be able to pop open a brewski. It’s good with Windows, Budweiser, Linux, Miller, Mac, Samual Adams, DOS, Sierra Nevada, Heinekin and a whole lot more systems. Best part, it’s made of a sturdy aluminum, so you don’t break the drive when you crack open the bottle.
So go ahead, have one on me. Hey, anyone got a bottle opener? Wait. I DO! I Just wouldn’t use both at the same time. That’s what my teeth are for.
I seem to do my best work while driving. Just today I put together another song in the car. That is why I have a digital recorder in the car. Of course it has a lot of failed attempts – a song about ‘Heated Seats’ come to mind.
This song the chorus was created while driving. The rest cultured with the song.
Lyrics
This song I wrote when I was driving home from a FAWM songwriters showcase. I started doing the breathing as a form of Beatbox. Then the song just came into play – or should I say Ran up on me.
Lyrics
Napolean had a Llama named Tina – although he didn’t like to feed her. It’s not a dancing Llama, but it’s a catchy song. Makes me want a Llama. Llamas rock.
Are you on the Internet and would like to Gong it? There are sometimes you are in a meeting and would like to Gong that. Would you like to Gong a Gong? Well, Get it on! Bang a Gong!T-Rex would be proud!
The Free Gong Button is a website that will let you Bang a Gong. Of course, this saves me the time of going downstairs, pulling out my gong (yes, I do have a Gong), smash it, then put it all away and come back upstairs. Instead, I just have to go to the website and click on the Mallet.
So if you don’t like something, GONG IT. Go on, Gong Dorkazine. We know you want to…
Update: Thanks to Art from Two Guys Tech that also suggests the Rimshot and the Sad Trombone.
This third song came from me strumming 3 notes. After I wrote it I realized it was similar to a famous 30 minute song. While not a song that will be on any album, it does have a catchy feel to it.
Lyrics:
Picture yourself in another world, would you stand up and eat the flowers?

Picture it – the lights go down, there is a hush over the crowd. All you can see are the flashes of cameras and those people on their cell phones (which used to be people with lighters). Next, the ring lights came up. Michael Buffer stands in the middle of the ring . He gets up on the mic and says:
“Ladies and Gentlemen… LETS GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE”
Well, maybe not as dramatic. But you get the idea.
Google Fight is a website which will pit 2 Google search words. While the two stick figures aren’t as fun to watch, the more interesting thing is the results it comes up with. The site will figure out how much a term is cataloged on Google. For instance, Good vs. Bad. Good shows up on Google 1,930,000,000 times while Evil shows up 192,000,000. So I guess in a Google world, Good prevails over Evil. Take THAT Satan!
While it’s a fun little diversion, it’s more of a tool to check some stats. Therefore this is a useful site for some that need to check some stats. It would be cool to see an updated version where different fight scenarios happen. We’ll see what happens.
BTW – pitting Geekazine vs. Dorkazine – Geekazine is at 21,600 and Dorkazine is at a lonely 2,080. Guess we have some work to do…
This song is one that has been rattling around my head for a while – at least the music part. I put lyrics to the second Song of FAWM.
Lyrics:
I have decided to add my FAWM progress over here. When I put out a new song, it’ll go up on Dorkazine.
FAWM stands for February Album Writing Month – the goal is to write 14 songs in 28 days. It has been going on for 4 years. I have done 3 of those.
This first song is called “TV Show”. Keep in mind the audio is slapped together quickly. While it doesn’t sound horrible, it isn’t perfect.
Lyrics:
Batman! My favorite hero in the DC universe! No special powers, just well honed skills, and lotsa cool toys! He’s the everyman hero, so to speak. A real strip down guy!
So, I decided to make this portrait as simple as possible.
After the hours spent on Superman, I knew that the most demanding part of this picture would be the Bat Symbol. I had done test strips of the ‘S’ shield, but not so with the bat. I was going at this one without practice. Also, there are a number of Bat symbols that have been used. The only one for my money is the Yellow symbol with the black Bat!
Drawing from the style of Bruce Timm, I started with a black background. Timm’s art in The Animated Series was all done on black first, to give the grim dark look it deserved. This seemed a good start, and proved to be a very helpful tool.
I began with the eyes! Then, the reflection of the cowl. From there, It just began to take shape. As the great sculptors, I found the picture inside the dark blank slate.
The symbol, which I said was done with no practice, was next. It proved to be easier than I thought, but did not happen the way I planned it to.
Speaking of which, the rain was an afterthought. I was making the cityscape, and felt that it wasn’t enough for him to be in the dark. This was a challenge, however, as it was almost impossible to add the rain over what I had already created. I had to improvise. The results are not as good as I would have liked, but they do make it more dreary.
I hoped this portrait would look and feel like the Bruce Timm version. In the end, it resembled a cross between that, and the comics.
One of the things I have been most happy with in all my portraits is that the style is far removed from the sample artwork I start with. The Dark Knight had no sample art, save for the symbol. It was pure creation, and the results were great!
