I remember seeing him on the casting calls and thinking: “Yeah. He’s not going to last”. Boy was I wrong. William Hung, move over. It’s time for Norman Gentle.

According to Nick Michell’s admission, he was only doing it as a comedy routine. However, when the group thought he had a great voice, he was going to Hollywood.

Now it’s time to change.

Nick does have that look of the washed up 80′s lounge singer. No offense to Huey Lewis – I could have easily said Greg Kihn or a host of other 80′s Pop singers. But he does have that look and feel – along with the Will Farrell “Over the top” acting.

Without the outfit and by taking a more serious run to it, he might just go a little farther than he expects. Even with the outfit, if Nick tunes down the comedy, his voice can take him farther.

But if he doesn’t make it to the top 12, will we see him on the set of Saturday Night Live? He does have the comedy face – I first thought of Bob Rivers, from the Twisted Christmas albums. No matter what, Nick has just vaulted his career into a new direction.

That’s the Power of Love…
