2013 Geek Roundup and Awards!

MMXIII-  This was a year of good and bad in the world of Dorkdom. From the Awesomeness of the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary, to the Crappiness of the Doctor Who Christmas Special, 2013 was a Dork roller-coaster. Speaking of Doctor Who, The newest prince, George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, was born in London, and The Doctor didn’t even pay a courtesy visit. He also didn’t pay his respects to Margaret Thatcher. Many places around the world legalized same sex marriage, paving the way for many more to follow, and the possibility of John Barrowman wedding news to overtake the interwebz....

Roger Ebert 0

Goodbye, Roger Ebert

I remember watching you and Gene Siskel on PBS reviewing movies. I remember the jump to syndicated TV and how your format changed. I watched your reviews every Sunday night at 10:35, right after the local news. I thought how cool it would be to watch movies and review them. I got to do a little of that when I worked at the college newspaper. My biggest review was Star Trek VI: the Undiscovered Country. Even with reviewing tech, I still learned from you and Gene. So now you’ve joined Gene Siskel in that big movie theater in the sky....

The Week In Dorkview

Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Kahn, according to Entertainment Weekly, so we will get to see if Chris Pine can make a vain pop out of his forehead too, while screaming the name over a communicator in JJ Abrams upcoming Into Darkness. OK, well, MAYBE he’s playing Kahn. We’ll have to wait and see. And that tops this, the last week of The Walking Dead drought, news in review. Next up is Abrams himself. Now awaiting Trek’s premiere, he readies himself to helm another classic sci-fi project that he probably hasn’t seen before, that being the mighty STAR WARS. This raises the question up...

LATE BREAKING NEWS!!! JJ Abrams Named Star Wars Director

It seems official! IMDB has announced that J.J. Abrams has been named the person helming the Next Star Wars film! The movie, which will feature Mickey as the next generation Jedi, along with his pals Donald and Goofy…. oh, wat. Sorry. I have been reading too many internet stories over the last few months! Abrams, who along with Bad Robot jetted Star Trek into the 21st century, is ready to take on the universe that George Lucas lovingly created in the 70’s, then destroyed in the 2000’s. This ends months of speculation and weird news reports of who would direct the film....

If Star Wars had Facebook 0

If Star Wars had Facebook

So I got emailled these. I am not sure where they came from – although there was thought they may have originated from College Humor. Still, this makes me think – Who has the time to put this together. Better yet, who is the ingenious person that took the time. Or even more – Where is Leia’s Facebook profile and can I be her friend. What other Facebook profiles can you imagine? Star Trek? Gremilins? Good Times? William Katt from Greatest American Hero is on Facebook – Check out what he says. In the meantime, here are the posts. Pretty...

Phaser!

Scientists have shown off an effect not unlike that of the “phasers” in the show Star Trek – but- hold yer tricorder there, Trekfan! it only works on tiny worms called nematodes. The worms were fed a molecule that, when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light, changes its shape. Then they exposed to UV light, and they exhibited paralysis. When the worms were again exposed to visible light, they regained their ability to move. So, no handheld phasers yet, but maybe someday… Meanwhile, keep practicing that Vulcan neck pinch there, sport! Related articles Star Trek tricorder jumble sale discovery (guardian.co.uk) R2-D2...

Mom? Can I Have an Office Pod? 0

Mom? Can I Have an Office Pod?

OMG! I have a HUMONGOUS Backyard and could see this go into it. The OfficePOD is a room at your house for you to work. You can put the OfficePOD in the Garage, in the front yard, in the back yard, on the roof, or wherever you choose. An enclosed cubicle in your house might just be the answer you are looking for to get out of the office. There is apparently a power outlet, but no wired phone or data outlets: they expect you to run wireless on that aspect. It’s an enclosed cubicle, so the elements wont get...
