I can’t remember why I started writing this….

OK, yes I can. I just sat down and wrote – then let the song take it’s own life. Sometimes a song works well when you don’t have a preconceived notion. When I got home I strummed some chords and everything fell in to place.

It really is a thinking song. What can you remember in your life?

What I do remember – Bits and pieces go
Parts of Kindergarten, Parts of grade school and

I Remember where I was when Lennon was shot.
I was walking towards my house when I heard about the Regan Plot.
I remember getting my first drumset
I only had it for a day.

How far back can you remember? Were you 2 or 3 or 4
What’s the first memory in your grey matter? Can you see it as clearly as you did before.

Things are hazy going on
Bits and pieces are all but gone.
I was in the schools’ wood shop when the Challenger blew up
I had to stop what I was doing

I even remember when I had my first beer.
It came from the teachers lounge -
yep – things like that today – you jest don’t hear about.
I remember dancing for the first time – that is the first time with a girl
that wasn’t my mother, wasn’t my aunt or even my sister.

High School is a little better – memories fall into place.
I can remember lots more – some items day to day.
I remember my first week in college
The hustle and bustle put me in a daze…

Oh wait. College is still a haze….

20 years later – I look back at all those things
I wonder where some of those memories went, will I remember again.
I look for little items that will unlock those doors
And start my life over – I can relive once more.
